Transforming Heron Rest: A Kiawah Island Renovation Story
It all begins with an idea.
New look, same Lowcountry soul — thoughtfully refreshed for 2026 stays.
Introduction
Guest expectations have moved beyond “a place to sleep.” Today’s travelers want comfort, craft, and a strong sense of place. That’s why we chose to fully refresh Heron Rest on Kiawah Island — aligning the home with the way families and friends actually gather, relax, cook, and work during a coastal escape. We took our cues from the Lowcountry itself — live oaks, marsh grass, and soft ocean light — and drew design inspiration from The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection, whose quietly luxurious style balances character with comfort.
Why We Renovated
We set out to elevate Heron Rest in several key ways:
Elevate comfort: Better seating, smarter lighting, and cozy materials for long chats after the beach.
Timeless over trendy: Durable finishes and classic proportions designed to age gracefully.
Real-life usability: A kitchen you’ll actually cook in, bedrooms you’ll actually sleep in, and spaces that work for families and remote work alike.
Smoother stays: Quiet HVAC, solid doors, task lighting, and thoughtful storage.
Design Vision: Coastal Calm, Thoughtfully Layered
Our palette leans into marsh greens, warm whites, and natural wood tones. Textures — linen, rattan, seagrass, raw oak — add depth without visual noise. Architectural details such as clean millwork and board-and-batten accents create a crisp backdrop for relaxed living. We admire how The Dunlin brings Lowcountry character forward with layered textures and a lived-in ease. That spirit — refined but relaxed — guided our choices.
Renovation Highlights
Kitchen, reimagined: Quartz worktops, panel-ready appliances, dimmable lighting, and island seating for groups.
Bathroom upgraded: Spa-style shower and elevated tilework.
Living & Dining: Lounge-depth sofa, layered rugs, reading nooks, and tuned lighting.
Bedrooms: Upholstered headboards, blackout options, bedside power, and proper task lamps.
Outdoor time: Fresh finishes, weather-friendly seating, and low-glare fixtures.
Quiet sustainability: Efficient HVAC, LED lighting, low-VOC paints
Before & After
Before: darker finishes and limited seating made gatherings feel cramped.
After: a bright, layered space with marsh-green accents and better flow.

It all begins with an idea.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
